Willzy twelfth at Etchell Worlds

North Sails’ Marketing director Andrew Wills – sailing with Anatole Masfen and Alastair Gair – placed twelfth in the 2008 Etchell World Champs, raced out of Chicago Yacht Club. Andrew, sailing under American Jud Smith, won the title last year. This year, the fleet of 83 included past Etchell world champions, world champs from other classes, America’s Cup sailors and Olympians.

Elysium claims $10,000 victory

Elysium – an Elliott 1450 Tourier cruising yacht skippered by Humphrey Sherratt - took out IRC honours and a $10,000 prize donated by the New Zealand Yachting Trust in the Auckland to Fiji race organised by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron this June. The race started in light conditions but as the pressure built, the pressure built, to an exciting finish in more than 30 knots. Other North Sails boats taking part included rival 50 footers Pussy Galore and V5.

Jagged Edge wins the North Sails SR26 nationals

Co-owners of ‘Jagged Edge’ Chris Maddock and Josh Tucker with crew of Damon Jolliffe, Steve Mair, Josh Puckey and Julian Payne, narrowly won the SR26 Nationals – sponsored by North Sails - over Andrew Walker’s ‘Mercenary’ with Richard Watson’s ‘Rattle and Rum,’ Third.

North Sails also secured at least five more national titles in the last half of the NZ summer season.

International customers

Speedboat – the 99 foot mammoth race boat built in New Zealand and designed to break speed records all over the world – may have won the annual Newport to Rhode Island race this June, but she’ll have to wait until next year to break the race record. And, following a fierce battle in the Gulf of Cagliari, the Transpac 52 Mean Machine is sitting in second place in the Region of Sardinia Trophy, just two points behind Quantum Racing – a fully professional syndicate worth more than US$6million.
